An invoicing product for freelancers, designed and prototyped from a blank page.
Brief
The self-set brief: design a product for freelancers and small studios who invoice clients regularly and find existing tools either too complex (built for accountants) or too simple (a bare template with no tracking). The goal: a fast way to create, send and track an invoice, with just enough visibility into what's paid and what's overdue.
Approach
The project started under UX & Product Design as a Design Sprint: research into how freelancers currently invoice (spreadsheets, generic templates, accounting software they don't fully use), followed by flow mapping and a clickable prototype tested against that research.
From there, it moved into Web App Development as a Clickable Prototype exercise — proving out the core flow (create an invoice, send it, see its status) as something that actually works, not just looks like it does, before any commitment to a full build.

Constraint
Freelancers, not accountants, as the primary user
Decision
Removed most accounting-software conventions (chart of accounts, tax categories) in favour of three visible states: draft, sent, paid.

A workflow people currently do in a spreadsheet
Decision
Kept the "create an invoice" flow to a single screen, matching the speed of what it was replacing, not a multi-step wizard.

No budget for a full accounting integration in an MVP
Decision
Scoped the prototype to invoicing and status tracking only — payment reconciliation and accounting sync marked explicitly out of scope for this stage.

Needed to be shown to real freelancers for feedback
Decision
Built as a genuinely clickable prototype, not static mockups, so early testers could actually create and send a test invoice.
What it demonstrates
A concept piece, not a delivered client outcome — it shows how a UX & Product Design sprint and a Web App Development prototype connect as one project: research into a working, testable artefact, without committing to a full MVP build first.
